Transition Town Marlow
- Because Marlow's Energy is in its Community

Hello, and welcome to our website.

We say “Marlow’s energy is in its Community” and hope you will join us in creating a sustainable and resilient community in the face of dwindling oil supplies and the effects of climate change.

Why not bookmark this website, and check out our latest developments as they happen? This site is still under construction, but we aim to make it a huge source of information to help us reduce our use of fossil fuel energy, and put long-term strategies in place which will allow us to face the future with confidence.

We set up Transition Town Marlow in March 2009, and it is the 200th community to become an official part of the Transition Movement. As of July 2010, there are 321 Transition communities. 196 of these are in the UK, and the rest are all over the world. 208 communities are in the process of receiving “official” status.

We join our neighbouring Transition Towns of High Wycombe, Maidenhead and Henley. We have built strong links with them, and have linked with other TTs in the home counties, throughout the UK and worldwide.

All money raised at TTM events is ploughed straight back into sustainability projects for Marlow. TTM is soon to become a Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit body that will work tirelessly to create a sustainable future for Marlow – and we’ll have fun doing it!

Who is TTM?

You, me and everyone else who lives in Marlow. We all have a part to play. If you wish to become an active member, or simply join our Yahoo forum, then please contact Julia at the.lockwoods@tiscali.co.uk. You will be gladly welcomed.

Our mission statement is:
Transition Town Marlow is the 200th community to join the Transition Town movement, which is working to mitigate the effects of climate change and the end of the oil age.

We aim to create a viable degree of sustainability and resilience – the ability to withstand global economic and environmental shocks - in Marlow.

Together, as a community of 14,000 people, we have many of the resources and skills needed to reduce our own carbon footprint and, co-operating with other transition towns, help to make a measurable contribution to reducing greenhouse gases in the UK.

We need to act now.

We will:
1. Develop a long-term plan as a community to move towards a sustainable, resilient way of life and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels;
2. Implement a wide-range of initiatives, concerning energy use, food production, transport, education, communication, health, and more; and
3. Include the whole Marlow community, regardless of gender, class, race, religion, physical or mental ability.

------------

We warmly invite you to join our current projects and events:

1. Fancy installing solar panels with big discounts? Go to TTM100SP: our project to get 100 houses and more signed up to receive energy from our most potent renewable energy source – the sun!

2. Work out your own carbon footprint and get practical help to reduce it, by joining our Carbon Cut-Back Workshop. We will be holding a workshop in the Autumn – date and venue to be confirmed.

3. We are organising a massive party with Echoes, a truly talented Pink Floyd tribute band, at Great Marlow School on Saturday 9 October. We will be roasting a hog, providing locally sourced vegetarian food, and other entertainment, to celebrate 10:10:10 day. More information of this fantastic event will be posted on our website shortly.
